Jazmine Sullivan

JazmineJazmine was a Philadelphia native is a native of Philadelphia, and was raised in the city. Pam her mother was a former backup singer for Philadelphia International Records. At the age of five, her father was appointed as the curator of Strawberry Mansion Section. Strawberry Mansion Section. Her family moved later into this historic building. In 2005 she was a graduate of the Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts in the class of an alumnus in vocal music. Sullivan played the contralto in the youth choir, and then sang in the adult chorus. Sullivan had limited exposure to secular music. She relates that she was eleven when someone requested her to sing in a solo in church. She wasn't fully ready. "I was fortunate enough to be chosen for the McDonald's competitionthat offered youngsters from cities across the country the chance to sing "Accept whatever God wills'. The audience responded to the song well." She sang with Stevie Wonder at his grandson's birthday party at 13. Sullivan aged 15 at the time, signed her first contract with Jive Records. When she was 15, she was signed to Jive Records. They recorded her complete album at Jive Records, however it wasn't made available for release. Sullivan was eventually dropped off the record label. They maintained a friendship with Missy Elliott who wrote and recorded several tracks in her debut album which included the hit single "Backstabbers" - produced by Timbaland and composed by Elliott.
